Sgt. Menchaca – Community Updates

  • Concord Police wants to work with the community and needs the community to report problems to 925.671.3333 o el 9-1-1
  • If you do not want a policeman to go to your house after reporting a problem then let the operator know and the policeman will just contact you by phone.
  • There are six policeman on duty at a time in Concord and they are divided up into three different parts of Concord.
  • The Concord Police started a gang unit five months ago with detectives to fight the gang problem. We are not like Oakland or Richmond when it comes to gangs. There are the Sureños and the Norteños in Concord. The Monument area is part of the Sureños.
  • Prostitution has become a focus area for the Concord Police. Women are now using internet to get cheap hotel rates and in the Monument area use the apartments to do their business. Around Ellis St. and around Ellis park they are concentrating their efforts.
  • Apartment managers can report these crimes to the police but need to leave their name and number so that the policeman can get the tips straight from the source.
  • They are also focusing on both Cambridge and Meadow Homes Parks with police circulating throughout the day.
  • The Concord Policeman pick their shifts every four months and its according to senority. Most like to work Mon-Thur. so they can have weekends free. There are 170 police and detectives combined in Concord.

Health and Safety Concerns -Loss of Route 8 Bus

  • Ridership has to double for Route 8 Bus to stay up and running
  • Suggestions were made during the meeting on why people do not use it.
  • Biggest suggestion was that it was not direct enough and took to long to get to one place.
  • On a positive note service is excellent, drivers friendly and happy.
  • Another suggestion is that it should go to more business places that residents on Monument go to.

Community Garden Facilitator – Lina Ortiz

  • Brought vegetable seeds to hand out and would like the group to start planting vegetables at home.
